For the carers out there that don't know (and many don't) it is a requirement that if child protection (DHHS,FACS,DOCS, whomever is relevant to your state/territory) know the child is in your care (Out Of Home Care) they are required to pay you a 'Carer reimbursement'. Of late when challenging this many carers are being told 'if you chase the payments you will be required to relinquish care of the child/ren to a foster carer (while it is being assessed) and there are no guarantees that you will have the child/ren returned to your care'. Of course no carer with a heart is going to run the gauntlet with this and put their children at more risk of emotional harm, and so the governmental agencies once again find a way to fudge the real statistics.
