Further down this Petition in the comments section a Grandmother who has stepped up to care for her grandchild and provide a stable, nurturing environment is being vilified by the biological mother. After many court appearances which I have been present at, to force her to remove the illegal content she continually posts on facebook, she is still posting and placing her son at harm from vigilantes who believe her fiction. Due to her untreated mental illness the courts are reluctant to punish her, however the damage she is causing cannot be undone and the carer is continually (7 years worth) being named and having her reputation sullied. Unlike foster carers we have no protection from the biological parents. We are forced to take out AVO's and finance our own legal action to protect the children we have been tasked to raise. Child Protection have placed these innocent children with us for a reason. The biological parents have failed to provide a safe and loving environment for their children, and yet we are continually having to defend ourselves against all kinds of ridiculous accusations. Foster carers have Child Protection to provide a barrier between the carers and the parents, we have no one and often are subjected to verbal, physical and psychological abuse. We need recognition (not condemnation) for what we do, its not easy but we get it done because we have no choice. The lives of our grandchildren/nieces/nephews are at stake and we cannot let them down. Too many others have in their past. The buck stops with us.
