Yes you read it right. Biological parents had their 2 year old served with court papers appealing family court ruling as they wanted him/her on the stand to say "he/she disagreed" with the ruling. Funded by legal aid there is not much the biological parents cannot do. 15 hours of driving in 2 days to attend court, satisfy court ordered contact orders and be abused by everyone about how it is "our" fault! Biological parents take off with child/ren who has been removed from their care, recovery orders, fear for child/rens welfare, no charges as there's a legal loophole, child/ren returned traumatised, we are left without support to mend these precious little lives. Medical issues, urgent operation, hospitalisation, pain and trauma, we have no rights, wait for consent from service or biological parents, children suffer, we suffer, who cares? Child/ren raised in our care from birth, knows no other life, strong bond and meeting/exceeding milestones, 4,5 or more years later child removed and immediately (no transition period) placed with biological parents because they want them, usually money orientated, natural parents cant cope, returned to carer, traumatised. Watching children cry, scream, kick and beg not to go for court ordered visits with biological parents. Where are the childrens rights? Having an infant dropped off at your door by a drug dealer as biological mother has left said infant as collateral and then after years of loving & raising, the services push for reunification. And what about the home daycare providers, parents drop kids off and never return, they choose to take on the parenting role, the protecting role and get no funding and no support. Kith carers never get a mention, are those childrens lives worth less? Raising infants withdrawing from drugs due to mothers constant drug use during pregnancy, low birth weight, breathing difficulties, behavioural issues, life long challenges but still biological parents have all the rights. Overnight going from a single retired or working person (50, 60 or older) to raising 5 children under 8, could you do it? We do! Children removed from biological parents and 1 allowed to stay? That infant dies as nothing has changed, the parent is still at high risk to the child. How do you cope? How do you explain this to their siblings? How do you cope, wondering if you could have done more? Bad decisions have consequences but for who? Our own biological children physically attack us, avo's are issued, we fear for our safety and that of our family, we no longer recognise the child we raised and we grieve for that dying/dead relationship. Drugs and Mental health don't discriminate, rich, poor, educated or not, everyone is at risk. You can help us with your signature to change a broken system, or you can sit back and play Russian roulette and hope the next bullet misses you. We are not bad parents, we are ordinary people doing an extraordinary job, maybe one day you will become one of us, I hope not but the chances are that you will.
