This is a factual story of a family (Grandparent carers and their grandchildren). I have left out identifying features as they live in constant fear, from the services and the biological parents (bios). I have my grandchildren a boy and a girl both under 12 in my fulltime care. I have had the grandchildren nearly all of there lives, and I had a permanent care order from the courts, until that is, bio mum took off with the grandchildren during an unsupervised access visit to XXXXXXXX Victoria, I live in another state. Three YEARS later I was away from home and received a phone call from DHHS Victoria to say they had found my grandchildren and they want to come back to me. I flew to Melbourne and had to appear in XXXXXXXX Court were the Magistrate gave me interim orders of accommodation for my grandchildren. Apparently bio mums new boyfriend went to jail and when police raided the house they found my granddaughter but not my grandson. Alegedly bio mother signed him over to the new boyfriends parents so they could also get centrelink payments. Because of the neglect and mental abuse during the three years my grandchildren were missing, DHHS put them in foster care for 2 months before notifying me . It was only when they started asking the kids questions and the kids said they wanted to go back to nanny XYZ that I was contacted. Bio mother told them nothing about family members. I told DHHS I had court orders for the kids and they told me that the orders are not binding when children come into their care. They eventually found her and the children but instead of returning them to me they chose to give her all the support she needed. She was giving clean urine samples for 2 months so they let her keep the kids unsupervised. They never contacted me the first time they found her because they thought by helping her get off the drugs and keeping her children with her that it would help her. It was just a complete shambles, how they supported her without any thought of or notification to me. All I was told was when she presented for urine she was clean. Remembering ice only stays in the system for around 72 hours and it was not random urine tests either, she was told when to do it and given dates and if she didn't turn up she always had an excuse and got away with it. These kids were just a cash cow for all of them to help pay for their own drug addictions. The children flew back with me on the XX th of December under the interim orders. I then received a phone call from DHHS XXXXXXXX Victoria telling me they are closing the case because it was to too hard for them to manage with me being in another state. They also said the children are safe and secure with me. I then asked what will happen now, because if the case is closed I have no back up if either parent come knocking to take children back. The answer I received from DHS XXXXXXXX Victoria was this:- "Well, you will have to go to Family Law court to get Parental responsibility". So I did, I cashed in my Superannuation to pay for it and I received Parental Responsibility. So disappointed with DHHS XXXXXXXX Victoria. They knew my grandson needed Specialists appointments and the children needed counselling. When children go into their system, all court orders are null and void hence I had to go back again. They would have known how much it was going to cost so it was easier to dump them with me and not have to keep paying the expenses. I am so angry with them and they get away with it. I give my grandchildren love and kisses and security. Financially we struggle but I am so blessed to have these 2 because they never ask for much they are happy just having friends and food and clean clothes. What would you do if this happened to you?
