The Archbishop of Canterbury and the Archbishop of York: Advise the Queen to dissolve the Convocations of Canterbury and York.

The Issue

The Convocations of Canterbury and York form the Clergy Houses of General Synod. Her Majesty the Queen has power under the Church of England Convocations Act 1966 to call together and dissolve these bodies at such times as she may determine. Dissolving the Convocations of these two Provinces automatically dissolves the whole existing General Synod of the Church of England and forces new elections. A new Synod would then be able to consider the Women Bishops Measure afresh. And new elections would produce a more representative House of Laity.
