Support the application made by The Great Hall for an expansion of their arts, banquet, and events facility from a liquor licensed capacity of 303, to the application increase of 1553.
The Issue
Due to a low capacity, The Great Hall is in danger of going the route of the Condo. The Great Hall is the West End's most important music venue. It is the home of many local music nights such as Long Winter, Loving In The Name Of, The Big Sound, Art Battle as well as The Junction Flea, Summerworks Festival, Uma Nota Festival, Sleepwalk Guitar Festival, charity events such as Free the Children, Princess Margaret Hospital, SKETCH, Homes First, Lonny’s Smile, Covenant House and many more. It is a historical and cultural landmark. It is the only venue above the stature and specifications of a music bar where local artists as well as international touring acts can put on large performances. It is our only accessible music hall. Toronto has Danforth Music Hall in the East and Massey Hall & Roy Thompson Hall downtown. All of these locations are far too exclusive for most local acts. We have a bad habit in Toronto of allowing all of our landmarks to go the way of development, commerce & condos. The Great Hall is too special and would be too great a loss to sustain. For the venue to continue as a vibrant hub for events and concerts on both the local and international scale this increase is essential! Please help us stop the war on culture and let's keep the Great Hall alive!!!
