Washington, D.C. 20008 Your Excellency: On behalf of Selassie Stand Up, Inc., a Pan-African organization established to promote and advance the interests of Africans and peoples of African descent, I respectfully request Your Excellency’s official support of the SelassieStandUp.org project. The SelassieStandUp.org project calls for the erection of a statue of His Imperial Majesty (HIM) Emperor Haile Selassie center front of the African Union (AU) Headquarters in commemoration of HIM’s foresight, visionary leadership, and distinguished role in establishing the then Organization of African Unity (OAU), now known as the African Union (AU). Many prominent African leaders and scholars from AU member countries have already expressed their endorsement and unwavering support of the SelassieStandUp.org project. Former President Girma Woldegiorgis expressed support by instructing the then Chairperson of the African Union, Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, to motion the AU Assembly for approval of the erection of a statue in commemoration of HIM Emperor Haile Selassie. Your Excellency, in a rather enlightening and eloquent interview on the history and formation of the OAU following the Golden Jubilee, also mentioned HIM’s formative role and pioneering efforts in establishing the OAU as well. It is, therefore, with great enthusiasm and optimism I ask for the Ethiopian Government’s official endorsement of the SelassieStandUp.org project.
