The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences have officially voted to expel Harvey Weinstein from their membership. This is after a meeting was held earlier today at The Academy headquarters to decide on Weinstein's fate. The Academy had this to say in a statement released after the decision was made : "We do so not simply to separate ourselves from someone who does not merit the respect of his colleagues but also to send a message that the era of willful ignorance and shameful complicity in sexually predatory behavior and workplace harassment in our industry is over." Thank you once again to the over 140,000 people who supported this petition's aim to remove Weinstein from The Academy. A digital copy of the petition was delivered to Academy President John Bailey and CEO Dawn Hudson this morning before the meeting took place. With Hudson confirming that the petition was received during a short phone call, I can only hope that the overwhelming amount of support that it received was brought to the Board of Governors attention during the meeting. With this said, I'd like to thank all of the members of the Board of Governors for removing Weinstein from The Academy ranks. And of course, I'd also like to thank all of Weinstein's victims for coming forward with their stories of abuse and harassment.
