Spongebob has influenced a lot of us in our childhoods. So when Stephen Hillenburg passed away, we all wanted him to be remembered. So we created a petition to have Sweet Victory performed at the halftime show of the Super Bowl. Sadly, while Maroon 5 acknowledged it, they teased it, but didn’t follow through.

Because of this, Many fans are angered. And it’s almost like they used it for clicks. It feels to a lot of fans like, they disrespected Hillenburg more than they respected him.

I saw everyone talking about how their spirits were crushed. Everyone was dejected that they got their hopes up, including me. So i wanted to find a way to continue our quest. I didn’t want to see everyone say “Oh well” and give up. So i thought: If Stephen Hillenburg is to be honored like fans would like, what if it was by the masters of his medium? He worked in television. It would be a great honor to all Spongebob cast, crew, and fans if we saw a tribute to him in one of the most prestigious TV/Movie Award Ceremonies. And a way to signal the end of an era. 

I also believe what he did for so many people deserves an award all on its own.

After the disappointment we felt because of the Super Bowl, I don’t want all of his fans, his friends, to leave empty handed.
