Our democracy is coming apart at the seams, and only Proportional Representation can fix it. People sometimes claim that First Past the Post is decisive or stable, but for the third election in a row it has failed on its own terms. At the same time it manages to reaffirm all of its proven weaknesses: millions were forced to vote tactically, over 68% of votes had no impact on the outcome, seats do not match votes and we’ve ended up governed by parties that just 43% voted for.
