The family of the 3-year-old boy (he was originally reported to be 4) who got into the gorilla enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo this weekend, an event that ended in the shooting death of 17-year-old gorilla Harambe, has released an official statement today to ABC News. The child’s parents, who have faced a huge social media backlash this week, had this to say: “Our child has had a checkup by his doctor and is still doing well. We continue to praise God for his grace and mercy and to be thankful to the Cincinnati Zoo for their actions taken to protect our child.” Though the family has had plenty of threats and anger hurled at them over the gorilla’s death, they have also had offers of gifts and financial help. They also responded to these offers in their statement to ABC News, saying: “We are also very appreciative for the expressions of concern and support that have been sent to us. Some have offered money to the family, which we do not want and will not accept.
