The petition that the District of Saanich not reduce McKenzie Ave and Quadra St. to single automobile lanes on either side of the road, as is being proposed in the draft of the Quadra McKenzie Plan has garnered over 1300 signatures in less than 48 hours!
This should send a clear message if ever there was one to Saanich elected officials and planning staff, that the public do not want this draft plan turned into reality.
Building on the momentum of the petition, please share the petition with friends and family and others in the community.
The higher number of signatures, the more likely the decision-makers will get the message.
Plain and simple: reducing auto traffic to single lanes on either side of McKenzie and Quadra is a bad idea that should not be implemented.
Even those who have pushed the plan must be aware that the result will only end in idling/polluting traffic jams, as never seen before in Saanich. This defeats the purpose of reducing vehicle emissions entirely. It also makes the title Active Transportation Plan, in reality its opposite: the clogging transportation plan.
So what is gained then by implementing this?
Nothing.
To proceed then with the plan as drafted, would only be the height of folly.
The people who will have to live with this reality if implemented, within just 2 days, have demonstrated en masse, that they do not want this plan to be implemented; and many more are certain to add their names to the list of those clearly opposed to this.
In a true democracy the will of the people must prevail. Saanich do the right thing and step back from a bad idea, before there is no turning back and we are all forced to live with the consequences.
Thank you for all of your support in this petition at this crucial moment!
