There are just a few hours left to tell the Coastal Commission to restore native plants to the Gualala Streetscape plans. Otherwise, Caltrans plans to fill those areas with concrete. The deadline for comments is Friday morning, so please send an email NOW.
Gualala residents approved a plan with the knee-high, low-maintenance, native plants required in our Coastal Plan. They’d help protect the natural charm of Gualala while also supporting our businesses and our jobs. But Caltrans and the County quietly deleted the planned landscaping.
Instead, Caltrans plans to replace the greenery with CONCRETE like in this Caltrans illustration.
Save Gualala has been working hard since May to reverse this decision, but WE NEED YOUR VOICE. Bower LP, which owns the Surf Market, also wants the landscaping restored.
On behalf of our 1,743 supporters, Save Gualala is asking the full Coastal Commission to intervene next week. PLEASE tell the Commission you support Save Gualala’s appeal by sending a quick email NOW to NorthCoast@coastal.ca.gov with a cc: to SaveGualala@gmail.com .
PLEASE say this is a “SUBSTANTIAL ISSUE” and the Commission needs to restore the required landscaping to help protect Gualala’s coastal character and struggling economy. The Commission pays attention to your emails.
If this can happen to Gualala, it can happen to any coastal town.
