In late July, I wrote to Thames Water jointly with Kezia, Chair of Kingston & Surbiton Labour Party, and Janice from Epsom & Ewell Green Party. The letter was also signed off by Kingston & Surbiton Green Party.

We mentioned our petition and asked Thames Water why they were overflowing so much sewage into the streams and please could they stop.

We also asked them for a meeting so that we could constructively engage on solutions.

The overflowing is scandalous and infuriating; yet it's solutions that are really needed.

Here is their response (attached) due to limitations with Change.org you may only see part of it. They admit:

1. The overflowing is due to old infrastructure no longer large enough to cope with current flows. It's from the mid-60s so almost 60 years old and does not appear to have been upgraded since then despite more 'urbanisation' i.e. homes and buildings in the area and thus more revenues for them from the area

2. They miss out the other issues that the Rivers Trust are saying are contributing to the discharges i.e. faulty sensors and comms issues.

They are offering a meeting and I am engaging with them on setting a date.

It's really positive that we have got a constructive meeting response from Thames Water. We could not have done this without your  amazing support.

And with your ongoing support we are going to get this fixed! Please keep sharing and asking others to sign.

Please feel free to fire me your questions for Thames Water as I now have a communication line with them. I will ask as many as possible.

Best Wishes and thanks again,

Mark
