TFL are proposing to drastically cut their bus services in Dartford. They are suggesting that the 428 no longer run between Crayford and Bluewater and that the schoolday only peak hour journeys on the current route come to an end. They are also proposing to stop the 492 from running between Dartford town centre and Bluewater.

We strongly urge TFL to re-consider the proposed changes to these routes.

Many residents, particularly the elderly, rely on the 428 bus as their only means of transportation to Darenth Valley Hospital. We have real concerns that these cuts could have a hugely detrimental affect on their health, with people missing appointments and becoming more ill and socially isolated. The cuts will increase the pressure on our ambulances, as well as Patient Transport Services. Less buses will only add to the demand of the already over stretched car parking facilities at the hospital.

The proposed changes will also have a massive impact on school children. Where they currently travel for free on TFL buses, the loss of these services will unfairly penalise children who are simply trying to access education in the borough. There is also a large crossover of temporary accommodation between Bexley, Greenwich and Dartford Borough councils. These cuts would impact on many vulnerable people who are most in need of support and services. The proposed changes to the routes will also restrict people from coming to Dartford’s well-loved marketplace and have a knock-on affect for local businesses.

As a borough we already face extremely high levels of air pollution, traffic and congestion. Cuts to these services will mean even more cars on our already heaving roads. Those that can’t drive will have no choice but to rely on the more expensive local services, often having to catch two buses and pay double fares! Taking all of the above into consideration, we implore you not to amend these much used bus routes.
