Senator West successfully amended HB 3 when it was debated on the Senate Floor on Monday, May 6, 2019. Senator West's amendment will require school districts to partner with qualified public and private entities for delivery of full day prekindergarten for eligible children PRIOR TO building new facilities and/or advancing school bond proposals for building new facilities for those full day prekindergarten classes. Congratulations to all of you, who signed the petitions to make our legislators aware of the unintended consequences of the bill. Senator West's amendment was in response to your efforts. There will be one more effort required of us all to assure that we Save Texas Child Care. HB 3 will undoubtedly be sent to a conference committee made up of both Senate and House Members where those members will have an opportunity to change the bill. We will need to contact all the members of the conference committee and ask them to keep Senator West's amendment intact and in the bill. We will send the names of the conference committee members as soon as they are announced. We expect that to happen by Friday, May 10, 2019. Thank you
