KEEP the Seasonal Lowering of Lake Conroe to Avoid Flooding at Lake Houston

We, the people who live in the communities downstream from Lake Conroe (The City of Humble, Atascocita, Kingwood, Huffman, Porter, and many other subdivisions) do hereby request that the Governor of the Great State of Texas step in and force The San Jacinto River Authority to do its job with flood mitigation efforts, and KEEP the seasonal (and temporary) lowering of Lake Conroe until the end of hurricane season 2022.

History: While Hurricane Harvey dumped a unseen amount of rain on Southeast Texas, the majority of homes and businesses in these communities had not yet flooded. All was well until the SJRA made the decision to open the flood gates at Lake Conroe at 0200 on August 28, 2017. In less than 6 hours that night, the water in Lake Houston rose 4 feet, far out of it's banks, and into more than 5,500 structures. At least 12 people died, and many are still rebuilding.

In contrast, Lake Conroe residents are asking to "Stop the Drop," with claims that the drop is 1) hurting their way of life and 2) their home values. The home values in the communities near Lake Houston have dropped as well, and continue to do so.
