Pediatric Mental Health Screenings

The Issue

This petition supports the requirement of schools in Texas to provide mental health screenings to all of their students (children and adolescents) through an opt out system.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness "50% of chronic mental health conditions" will start by the age of 14 and "75% begin by age 24". In requiring mental health screenings in schools, it would allow for an increase in early intervention. Targeting symptoms early on often results in a better outcome through proper treatment and intervention. Overall, this screening would be beneficial in promoting mental wellness and connecting those in need to proper resources.

Thank you for your support!
