The number of fatalities and serious injuries due to car accidents along West Highway 71 between Bee Cave and Briarcliff continues to climb. “Bandaid” solutions such as resurfacing the road and increasing police presence has NOT solved the problem as the amount of growth along the Highway 71 corridor continues unabated and traffic only gets worse. The vast majority of the most serious accidents involve cars crossing the center lane and striking oncoming vehicles. This would NOT happen if a cement barrier were put into place in the center lane. While such a barrier might create an inconvenience for some, we believe a little inconvenience is a small price worth paying to save lives.
