ALERT: We have 24hrs to make our voice heard
Community -
The UT Board of Regents will be meeting via a 30-minute conference call this Tuesday, April 2 concerning Heather Wilson. We have the next 24 hours to make sure they know we deserve a better candidate. This is our last chance to make our voice heard.
Community members are able to submit a statement to be included in the meeting materials the regents will receive. We are asking you to write a short, personal statement to the regents explaining why they should NOT vote Heather Wilson to become UTEP's next president (or you can use the sample email below). If you are an El Paso resident who signed the petition (being the vast majority of you), please also copy (CC) your Texas delegation (emails below). We need to ensure that our representatives know that we care about this issue and that they, too, should speak up to oppose Heather Wilson .
Thank you for taking these extra 5 minutes to make sure UTEP gets a better candidate for president. More info on meeting: https://bit.ly/2YFaJTX

Subject: Statement Concerning Heather Wilson
Dear Texas Board of Regents: I am writing to you as a concerned [student/alum/community member] of [UTEP, El Paso, or insert city]. The Texas Board of Regents decision to move Heather Wilson as a the sole candidate for UTEP's presidency is weighing heavy on the UTEP and El Paso community. Heather Wilson’s voting record, as a New Mexico congresswoman, shows that she is not inclusive of all people. I think we can all agree that UTEP deserves a president who will be inclusive and welcoming of all students and has the track record of doing so. Wilson’s anti-LGBT voting record clearly shows she is not that leader. We need a UTEP president that unites us, not one that will divide the community. Wilson is clearly already dividing the community. I, along with 10,000 other people, ask that the Texas Board of Regents to reconsider the selection and withdraw Heather Wilson as the sole candidate for UTEP's presidency, and move another candidate forward who will represent and serve ALL students. Please include this statement in the meeting materials on April 2nd.
