Nearing 10,000 signatures - Petition Delivery
Hi everyone.
It's been almost two weeks since the Texas Board of Regents announced Heather Wilson as the sole finalist to be UTEP's next president. In this short time, students have organized a protest on campus, phone banks to the regents and the press committee. Students and community members have even made local, state, and national news.
Tomorrow, student leaders and community members will deliver the 9,300+ petition signatures to Paul Foster, the Vice Chairman of the Texas Board of Regents located in El Paso, to ensure that he and the rest of the regents know that Heather Wilson was a poor choice to lead UTEP's beautifully diverse campus.
With only 700 signatures to go, we believe we can hit 10,000 by tonight. Please forward this petition to your UTEP peers and fellow El Pasoans.
We also invite you to meet up with student leaders and community members ahead of the petition drop tomorrow, March 21 at 10:45 am in San Jacinto Plaza to show our support!
It is evident that our community wants a president who will support diversity and inclusion and someone that believes all people should be treated equally. Heather Wilson's track record is a clear indication that she hasn't treated all people equally and would not uphold the values of UTEP and the El Paso community.
In solidarity,
