The Issue

In 1991, Miguel Angel Martinez was the youngest person on Death Row, at age 17. He did not commit a murder, but he was in the company of an acquaintance, that night, who unexpectedly turned violent and killed 3 people. The law states that, because Miguel did not try to interfere, by trying to stop the person holding the weapon (which could easily have been turned on him), that he was complicit in this act, and was charged with the harshest sentence. In 2002, his sentence was commuted to life in prison. The person who committed the murders was 16 years old, and will only serve 41 years, maximum. We do not think this is justice. We think Miguel deserves freedom.
