The Teton County anti wildlife feeding and bear resistant trash can draft ordinance passed the Planning Commission unanimously, but your help is still urgently needed. Thank you to all the people who wrote letters, emails, made phone calls, and submitted written public comment to the Planning Commission. You made this happen.
Our work is not yet done. It is not a sure bet that the Teton County Commissioners will vote yes for this ordinance. In fact, there is still a solid chance this could be vetoed by the commissioners. That’s right, there is inexplicably still resistance in Teton County to requiring bear proof trash cans and asking residents not to feed wildlife in the backyard. This will most likely be voted on in the April 12, 2022 Teton County Commission Meeting.
This ordinance came into being, and passed the Planning Board because of the community and public pressure applied by all of you. It is time once more to act. We need to push this across the finish line or all this effort is wasted.
Please write emails and letters and ask your friends to do the same. Convince the Teton County Commissioners they have the public duty to pass this public safety and wildlife conservation regulation. We need overwhelming public comment in support of this ordinance. Help save these bears. If you don’t do it no one else will.
