Boycott Tesco chicken until it stops buying chickens raised in vast industrial factories

Almost 18 million broiler chickens are slaughtered every week in the UK. The chicks live for just 5-6 weeks. They are fattened intensively so that they can barely stand and then slaughtered when they reach a weight of about 2.2kg. The Poultry Industry is aiming to reduce their life span to just 19 days. The birds live in vast industrial units and never go outside. A typical flock is 150,000 - 225,000 birds. The Red Tractor scheme allows 38kg of chickens per square metre, roughly 16 or 17 chickens to one metre when they are nearing the weight for slaughter. Wherever there is a large chicken processing company, as in Hereford, Planning Authorities & the Environment Agency are allowing more & more of these Factory Farms despite the equivalent of 86 million chickens being thrown away as food waste every year in the UK. Tesco buys broiler chickens raised in this way for their meat, but doesn't label it as "factory farmed".
