Extinction is forever… experts have estimated that at current poaching rates, African Elephants could be extinct within just 20 years.

The idea that we could face a future where we can't even say that we truly fought for their protection scares me almost as much as the idea of future generations learning about these creatures in the pages of history.

It's not long now until myself and some of the wonderful IAPWA team attempt to summit Mount Kilimanjaro in October, Africa's tallest mountain and the world's highest free-standing mountain, to raise sponsorship donations for the Elephant Orphanage Project. So far, I am delighted to have raised over £7,500! Link above for fundraising page. 

In terms of having a true, positive impact upon the protection of this species, the tireless work of the Orphanage is infinitely powerful.

Already, the donations will have an incredible impact on the lives of these elephants, who are so often orphaned due to brutal poaching carried out by humans.

I always have, and always will, believe that with enough work we will see a world in which people can exist with animals in a compassionate way. Regardless of species, where they live or the ways in which humans have treated them in the past, every creature deserves protection.
