TX Gubernatorial Demand for Action on Moratorium of the TCEQ Standard Permit
TX Gubernatorial Demand for Action on Moratorium of the TCEQ Standard Permit
The Issue
Communities across Texas have felt the lash of the hazardous activity caused by the aggregate industry in Texas running unchecked by our government agencies (that are tasked with upholding the law and protecting us as well as our environment.) The impact to the air is bad enough, the amount of damage to the groundwater and aquifers is astronomical as it is currently planned. It is our responsibility to protect ourselves and our environment.
We the citizens of the Texas Hill Country ask Governor Abbott, the Texas Senate and the Texas House of Representatives to take all necessary action to institute a statewide moratorium enjoining the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality from: (1) issuing any Air Quality Standard Permits for Permanent (or Temporary) Rock and Concrete Crushers, any Air Quality Standard Permits for Permanent Hot Mix Asphalt Plants, and any Concrete Batch Plant Permits; and, (2) accepting any new Aggregate Production Operations registrations, until a comprehensive review of TCEQ's permitting standards and air quality oversight can be undertaken by a neutral fact finding body to ensure that the cumulative impact of the aggregate industry on the health, safety, water resources and reserves, and economic well being of local communities is factored into and fairly considered in all permitting responsibilities delegated to TCEQ.
