We need to bring to your attention that a story has come out in the news wrongly accusing our group of vandalism on the proposed site Harbourtown development sign in Fort Erie. This accusation was not based on any factual evidence, other than our group is recognized as caring about this site's historic, cultural and natural significance. We would have thought it would be obvious to everyone that people who care about their community, as we do, would never engage in or condone vandalism or any other disruptive measures. However, we are disappointed to report some of our members have been wrongly subjected to verbal abuse and harassment on social media. We think it is noteworthy that we are not being accused of the many other instances of vandalism recently occurring, including the spray painting of the Niagara Movement sign, just the Harbourtown sign. Stay strong and let us know if you have any personal concerns.
We also want to draw your attention to the election, October 22nd. It is important for all residents of Fort Erie to educate themselves on our candidates and what they say they support. Is their candidacy in the best long-term interests of the people of Fort Erie or are they more interested is helping an outside interest make a short-term profit at the expense of our community.
