CHARLESTON, WV — Press conference calling on Governor Morrissey: Halt Immigration Arrests in WV
Monday December 8th at 11am
WV State Capitol weblink
Outside Governor’s office
West Virginia faith leaders and people of conscience will gather at the WV State Capitol to deliver a petition to Governor Patrick Morrisey, calling upon him to issue a moratorium on immigration arrests in West Virginia during the holiday season.    Dont-Deport-for-the-Holidays  Additionally, the event will highlight why West Virginia needs to cease our 287(g) agreement, which has state police officers cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to arrest and detain people - when instead they should be focused on community safety and enforcing state and local laws—not federal immigration. Speakers will also draw parallels to the story of Christmas and Las Posadas reminding us of the Christian duty to welcome refugees and provide sanctuary. Immediately following the press event, those gathered will deliver the petition to Governor Morrisey’s office.
