US Forest Service Managers Continue To Grow Fires In The West
Please sign this petition and share with at least two of your friends. Tell the US Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management leadership to stop the smoke, put the fires out!!!
The US Forest Service did nothing to stop a 1/4-acre fire from growing to now 65,000 acres near Lake Tahoe, now less than 4% contained. The fire has been burning for 22 Days.
US Forest Service management is on record stating that they were taking no action and simply watching the fire in it's early stages and that the “fire poses no threat to the public, infrastructure or resource values.”
Similarly at the direction of US Forest Service fire managers, firefighters left the scene of a small fire near Mt. Shasta that they thought was out. The fire reignited and is now 26,316 acres. The fire has been burning 30 days.
This, as toxic smoke gases spew into the region (PM10, PM2.5, PM1, Carbon and Ozone), inflicting real harm and misery on the public, wildlife, pets and recreation opportunities across Northern, CA.
Nevada lawmaker Jim Wheeler has asked the Nevada Attorney General to investigate the inaction of US Forest Service leadership in connection with the Tamarack Fire near Lake Tahoe, now spreading from California into Nevada. Similarly, as toxic smoke gases spew into the region (PM10, PM2.5, PM1, Carbon and Ozone), inflicting real harm and misery on the public, wildlife, pets and recreation opportunities across the California Region and into Northern, NV, not to mention the destruction of our natural resources.
US Forest Service leadership continues to mask their true intentions which are actually growing, steering and managing fires for theoretical forest health benefits by shifting their messaging away from their failed leadership and continuing to blame climate change, the bark beetle and firefighter safety. Anyone in the business knows that both of these fires could be safely and aggressively fought and stopped with an early and reasonable combination of ground and air resources and by following the 10 Standard Firefighting Orders and 18 Watch Out Signs.
It's time for lawmakers and the public to demand a stop to this US Forest Service theory of forest management via burning up our forest and inflicting pain and suffering on our region. It isn't working!! And this out of control government experiment gets worse every year.
It is pure idiocy to believe that "we need to burn 300,000 acres to keep 300,000 acres from burning". Next year, after the trees are gone, and for 20 years thereafter, the sunlight will allow proliferation of heavy ground flash fuels which will allow future fires to burn even more rapidly.
Let's also be thinking about moving fire combat missions away from the USFS to agencies that have the leadership, competency and the will to do the right thing and out the fires out. The public expects this!
