US Forest Service Chief Exploits The Tragedy Of The "Camp" Fire

According to the Sacramento Bee Newspaper on Nov 27, 2018, US Forest Service Chief Vicki Christiansen stated...... "we cannot waste a crisis...we need to treat more acres" (treat is the code word for more burning).

Her false and exploitative narrative infers that the tragic loss of life and destruction of the "Camp" fire could have been prevented or lessened, if only we had more forest logging, thinning and air polluting prescribed burns.

It's disingenuous of her to exploit this historical tragedy with such a false narrative.

Anyone in the business of forest fire suppression knows that logging, thinning and toxic air pollution prescribed burns will not prevent or stop a wind driven fire in a sloped, canyon or even flat environment. Wind driven fires can jump entire freeways and a typical wind cycle can last on average from 5 to 7 days. 

Burning brands from wind driven fires like the "Camp" fire can be carried miles ahead of the main wind driven fire starting numerous additional spot fires. This makes wind driven fires virtually impossible to control until after the wind stops.

Once again, environmental and pollution mismanagement and the call to burn more, continues from the agency that has been purposely growing fires, polluting our air quality and diminishing stream and lake clarity since the mid 1970's.

And, despite what they would have us believe, the US Forest Service has not been suppressing fires for 100 years.

In fact, largely unknown to the public and press, they have been quietly growing fires and polluting the air we breathe for approx the last 40 years (see our attached article).

If the US Forest Service wants to promote more logging, more thinning more burning and more pollution, then they should base their reasoning on true science (which they have none). The merits of their policy should stand on their own. This, rather than shamefully using the death and destruction of the wind driven  "Camp" fire to justify their messaging.

If the US Forest Service gets their way, the massive pollution episodes we experienced this last summer will pale in comparison to the toxic pollution they have planned for our families, children, pets and wildlife this spring and summer. All in the name of their "just burn", "must burn", "just let it burn" dogma. None of which is based on true and settled science.
