Dear Friend -- We need global action to face the Coronavirus pandemic, but we don't need dictators using this moment to build their power.

That's why it's troubling to see Saudi Arabia's dictator, Mohammed bin Salman, offering to host a virtual convening of world leaders to address this crisis. Yes, world leaders should be communicating directly with each other -- and many already are.

But no, a brutal dictator should not be allowed to use the Coronavirus crisis to piggyback on the global conversation and make himself look more legitimate.

Saudi Arabia's dictator could actually make the Coronavirus pandemic even worse. Why? Because he is already blockading the people of Yemen and bombing them repeatedly. According to the International Committee of the Red Cross, Yemen's health care systems have been "decimated." Many have already died in unrelenting war.

You and I are not the only ones to be concerned about this. U.S. Congressman Ro Khanna from California’s Silicon Valley has publicly stated his opposition to Saudi Arabia playing host for a Coronavirus conversation.

Yes, that conversation needs to happen. But no, the Saudi dictator shouldn’t lead it.

The more pressure we put on the Saudi dictatorship, the more concessions we will win for human rights and global justice.
