In a Fox Business’ article, "Tyson Foods CEO: The Future of Food Might Be Meatless," Tyson's Tom Hayes said: “People want protein, so whether it’s animal-based protein or plant-based protein, they have an appetite for it.” Tyson has also already purchased a 5% stake in vegan company Beyond Meat, lauded as the "Future of Protein" by Bill Gates, and established a venture capital fund dedicated to similar investments. While Tyson may be catching up on meatless demand, the company is still lagging behind on animal welfare. As COK’s investigator documented, Tyson's broiler breeder chickens are genetically manipulated to grow so large, so quickly, that the company starves them just to keep them alive long enough to reproduce.
