Hi everyone,
Thank you so much to all who have signed, shared and donated to this petition. We are over 1000 signatures which is amazing.
In a summer filled with the buzz of the Women's European Championships, with the success of the Lionesses, it is important to remember that these freedoms and opportunities are not available for all women and girls worldwide. While we should celebrate the progress of the sport, and the rights for women as a whole in Europe, there is a need for emphasis on the on-going struggles faced across the world. In Gaza, women and girls are murdered by the brutal hands of genocide - denied a future. In Afghanistan, they are dehumanised. It is illegal for them to be educated. It is illegal for them to leave the house without a man.
But what can we do? As the Women's Super League season soon returns, it is important now more than ever that our league is not contaminated by the sponsorship of Barclays whose valued sit far out of line of those of women's football. Barclays contributes to the genocide in Gaza by financing Israel arms companies, and investing in and selling Israel government bonds - the main source of income for their military. How can we celebrate the success of football in England when in doing so, we are contributing to the murder of women and girls in Gaza?
