Silver Voices will continue to support the Frozen Pensions Campaign, but there is now a real threat to the Triple Lock updating system and the state pension itself! Dark clouds are gathering which would end any chance of the frozen pensions campaign being successful.

It is no coincidence that there has been a flurry of stories in recent days claiming that the continuation of the Triple Lock is unsustainable and that the state pension itself may need to be means-tested. Reports by think tanks and the Office for Budget Responsibility have been covered uncritically by the BBC and most other media outlets and it is clear that this is a coordinated campaign to make pensioners the scapegoats for the current economic crisis as we approach a very  difficult Autumn Budget. 

Although all political parties say they are still committed to the Triple Lock, we know from bitter experience that we cannot trust any promises from politicians. Silver Voices led the campaigns to save the Triple Lock and the winter fuel payment and we will have to mobilise again to save our current state pension safety net.
