Today marks one week since I started this petition and already over 1,000 of you have added your name. I cannot thank you enough for getting the ball rolling on this issue and showing your support. I have been in contact with organisations worldwide who have been sharing the petition via their social media, some with more than 250,000 followers. 'Zinc' news (300k fb followers) have also agreed to post the petition with their next 'plastics' story. I've also heard from a local cafe who have vowed to stop using plastic straws for good because of this petition!! These are all small steps but they all help towards a positive change for our planet. For something so utterly pointless and harmful to our environment to continue being manufactured in this day and age is ridiculous and for it to go on would be a disaster for our oceans and wildlife. I am aiming to reach 10,000 signatures over the next few months but in the mean time please continue to spread the word, asking your local cafes, bars, restaurants to make the switch, or even just mentioning to someone in conversation the damaging effects of plastic straws. Most people simply don't realise where they end up and if only they knew would (hopefully) not continue to use them. Thank you again for all of your support. Let's make this #thelaststraw Clare x
