Sadly I don't have anything to tell you that I haven't already told you.  Raystede is still serving meat, fish and dairy products in their cafe.  The fact that this is WITHOUT DOUBT against their founder's wishes has not deterred them.  The fact that this is EXTREMELY CRUEL to animals has not deterred them either.  I believe, though I cannot prove it, that years ago they made a deal with the devil and now they can't get out of it.  But I have a suggestion that could mitigate the harm they are doing to animals. 

Hypothetically, if this charity has accepted a very large donation from the meat industry on condition that they promote the lie of humane animal products by serving them, then to go against that condition now might finish them.  They would, presumably, have to pay all that money back and perhaps that would bankrupt them. 

That would explain why they have ignored us from the get-go.  It was a policy decision made long ago to ignore us.  Long before this petition started eight years ago there must have been many complaints about the serving of animal products at Raystede, but the trustees had made a policy decision to ignore them until they went away. 

If this is true I have a suggestion.  Perhaps Raystede could avoid being shut down by the devil they made a deal with by complying with the condition, technically, whilst also being honest to its supporters.  Here's how:

1. Remove from the menu all mention of words such as "high welfare, sustainable and locally sourced".
2. Reduce meat, cheese, egg and fish options on the menu to the minimum, eg only one or, if necessary, one of each.
3. Make all other menu options fully vegan.
4. Put educational posters on the cafe wall which tell the truth about animal farming, its cruelty to animals whether free-range or not, and its devastating effect on the environment.
5. Put educational leaflets and 'Go Vegan' guides in leaflet dispensers in the cafe and around the charity grounds.
6.  Republish Miss Raymonde-Hawkins books to sell in the shop and put up posters with pictures and quotes from her in all the buildings.

End your betrayal of your founder Raystede, be true to her legacy.

My friends, I know this is not what we wanted, but if it's the best we can get it will be a hell of a lot better that what we have now - Raystede not only selling the products of cruelty, but also telling their customers that it's humane.
