Don Jones and the Chesapeake Climate Action Network

A couple weeks ago, I asked you all to join me at one of the public hearings in Virginia for the Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley Pipelines.
And… wow.
Thanks to your help, more than 1250 people attended the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality hearings, with more than 500 people in Harrisonburg alone. Pipeline opponents were out in force. We outnumbered pipeline advocates three to one (while many of the supporters were allegedly paid to be there).
We know that the DEQ wants to take the easy road and let the fracking companies get away with dangerous construction practices that threaten our water. Last week, we aimed to show the DEQ that we mean business. There’s no question about it: we did. The DEQ was completely overwhelmed. Word on the ground is that the agency is starting to get the message. Thank you!
Now, we need to keep up the pressure in the weeks ahead. Stay tuned. In the meantime, check out the article below for an update on our efforts — and thanks for all your help!
