On January 18, 2024, I emailed Petco and sent them a link to this petition. Here are their response and my answer to that response:

My answer this morning to Petco:
Hello,
Petco sells foods that contain mercury, arsenic, lead, cadmium, pesticide, acrylamide, and BPA. "Taste of the Wild" brand is just one brand that has been tested and found to contain these carcinogenic substances in levels that cause cancer. Petco sold me that brand for 4 1/2 years, and, trusting Petco, I fed it to my dog. He died from cancer after living just over five years.
If you read the information contained in my petition, you would already know this, so your question suggests that:
A - you did not read it
or
B - you may be uninterested in the health of the animals that eat foods Petco sells.
Half of all American pet dogs die from cancer caused by contaminated food, and Petco corporation knows this but continues selling poison to its customers. You can help me by honestly facing and working to stop this practice. Anything less suggests that Petco, despite its marketing programs, cares only about profit and nothing about living, breathing animals or the people who purchase Petco products.
A start would include Petco lobbying Congress to enact legislation to regulate carcinogens in pet foods marketed as being beneficial to pets.
Secondly, Petco could and should require that all pet foods it sells contain labels that clearly show the levels of carcinogens contained in those foods.
Because Petco is a large and influential buyer of pet foods, its insistence upon safe foods would cause other retailers to follow suit. Petco could then solidly position itself as the true leader in the sale of safe and healthy foods. As it stands now, Petco is just another retailer whose products kill pets.
Instead of asking ME how I can be helped, you might better ask your management how it can really help itself by facing facts and truly caring about animals who are members of its customers' families.
Please forward my message to those people in Petco's management and ownership who have the power and responsibility to improve its behavior.
I will post your email and my response on my petition update section so that the people who have signed may know that Petco has been notified.
Thank you,
Perry Callas
