On 25th May Labour Councillor Nadine Peatfield will put forward a Council motion for a vote to support our campaign proposals, backed by all Labour Councillors. We are delighted that Councillor Danielle Lind, Liberal Democrats, is backing #FairChanceDerby too. She said "I agree with the cause. I also want to see action on these issues and I can assure you we will work together as a Democratic group WITH people to take these issues forward. I look forward to further discussions".
Adding a statement of support from the local Liberal Democrats:
"For some time now, Derby Liberal Democrats have been taking action to help people suffering the effects of poverty. From setting up foodbanks during the pandemic to offering our support, sign posting and lobbying the government. Back in October 2020 we organised the distribution of lunches to families during the half term break. Derby Liberal Democrats did this in response to the government failing to give appropriate support during half term to low income families.
At the Full Council meeting on 25th November 2020 Lib Dem Councillors Danielle Lind and Ajit Atwal put forward a motion [Free School Meals & Child Hunger]. The motion passed. Throughout the past year, Lib Dem Chairs/Vice Chairs have continued to fight for equality and justice across the Council. One example of this is fighting the corner of children and young people with SEND (Special Educational Needs & Disabilities) and their families.
Last summer, and continuing to the present day, Lib Dems have been listening to residents and highlighting the issue of the difficulties getting access to dental services and to GPs. Although NHS representatives recently failed to attend a public meeting with Councillors, Lib Dem Councillors have asked residents for their views and have met with NHS leaders and the Director of Public Health to discuss these issues. We have requested that the NHS leaders do attend a public meeting with councillors in the near future and will continue to fight for a fairer, cleaner, greener Derby". Published and promoted by D.
