Great solidarity today with the #FairChanceDerby Street Action: Poverty + Cost of Living Crisis in Derby city centre - adults, young people and kids were expressing by chalking for change and signing our petition. Thanks for your support everyone!

Lots of people shared energy bill anxiety, low wage struggles and anger at rising child poverty. People are feeling let down - they see money being spent in strange ways on vanity projects instead of life priorities like food and shelter. There was frustration expressed about Derby being among 25 councils that have not yet paid out the rebate to help people; the lack of sense of urgency led people to feel that some Council leaders are not understanding how desperate the cost of living crisis is. 

It was good to have compassionate conversations and connecting people with local sources of help - but foodbanks, debt advice and charity should not be necessary - poverty is a political choice - let's remind everyone of all this as voters go to the polls on Thursday for the local elections and let's get more signatures to present to the Council on 25th May - please keep sharing this petition to help us reach wider - thank you.
