By a vote of 15-5, the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee just passed the Sentencing Reform and Corrections Act. That bill is not a law -- at least not yet. But it has cleared its first major hurdle. But it does not yet go far enough, so your support will help us push for improvements to the bill that will offer more alternatives to incarceration, so we lock up fewer people in the first place. And eliminate rules that lock up far too many low-level drug offenders for mandatory minimum sentences. Instead, letting judges craft solutions that fit each crime.
