Hello,

Our campaign to save the Chevella Banyans has reached an important milestone: 3 tree-lovers from our group have filed a petition with the National Green Tribunal (NGT). Click here to spread the news so that every tree lover in India supports this campaign before the next hearing.

The tribunal was pleased to admit the application and National Highways Authority of India informed the court that they have no plans to fell the trees as of now and that they are only enumerating the trees. They have filed a counter-petition noting that there are only 2,500 trees (we estimate close to 15,000 trees) on that road. However, they have not addressed the key fact raised about treating this project as a new project and conducting an Environment Impact Assessment. We have our work cut out for us.

One of the key aspects of the petition is the public support behind it. 60,000 ++ signatories on the Change.org petition is a powerful proclamation of support for the Banyans. A big thank you to all of you who signed the petition and got others to sign it too! Your signature, messages of support, attendance at the many poetry/bird-watching and other events have all made this possible.

NEXT STEPS: Today, we appeal to you to keep sharing the petition with all your WhatsApp contacts so that public support for trees grows. Help us get closer to 1 lakh signatures before the next hearing.

Hereon, as the campaign to save Chevella's Banyans continues, we will be counting on your support and encouragement -- both online and offline. These are your Banyans, come help save and secure them for posterity!

Thank you,
Nature Lovers of Hyderabad
