A neighbour was discussing the possibility of the Whitton site for Turing House School with a local MP in Heathfield Recreation Ground yesterday afternoon. This MP has stated that they are looking at the possibility of the access road through Berwick Close. Further they would also consider removing the one way system on Cobbett Road to help with traffic flow !! The people in power are 1). Clearly severely clueless about the area 2). Don't give a damn about the area 3) Have no idea how bad traffic is already day in day out Berwick Close is 10 feet wide and at a right angle to Cobbett Road coming from Springfield Road. How exactly would construction traffic get into the site to build the school ? with 16 ton dump trucks, excavators, piling rigs, tower cranes, skip lorrys, 44 ton artic lorries !! It is laughable and pure lunacy. The powers that be are clutching at straws. The Highways Agency have decided to dig up the road at the traffic lights at Whitton Corner yet again. temporary lights are in place, and these works will go on until August. The temporary lights are four way instead of the usual two way, so the traffic is taking twice as long to clear. The traffic is horrendous ALL DAY LONG and complete gridlock. This is a regular occurrence and a nightmare for local residents, who are sick of road works at these particular set of traffic lights. Traffic is backed up for the left turn ALONG the A316 !! Further, there are plans afoot for the RFU at Twickenham to use the whole of the A316 from Hospital Bridge Roundabout to the Rugby Ground as a CAR PARK on World Cup days, the proposal is to shut this section of the A316 completely. The surrounding roads would be even more unbearable than they are now. Imagine these two scenarios with another school for 1,100 pupils in the immediate area. IT WILL BE CHAOS. Whitton residents are getting well and truly shafted.
