On 12 January 19.4 cubic metres of concrete were poured forming the ring foundation around the base of the Grandstand (see photo).
From now on work on the Grandstand will be building rather than taking away which is very exciting. There will be two or three weeks of putting steel in and shuttering before the next concrete pour.
As the council work continues on the grandstand at the showgrounds the Golden Bay Grand Stand Community Trust continues to fundraise to pay back loans from before 2020, used for work to keep the grandstand.
Over 100 places on the fundraiser Thank You sign have already been taken by generous donors. As with the real grandstand you can choose where you want to be ‘seated’ on the sign. Some choose where they hung out during the 2018 occupation, some are alongside the names of family members who have passed away and some see a friend already on the board and choose to sit next to them. Two names can go on one place, or you can remain anonymous or put your pet’s name instead if you wish. Businesses are also invited to appear on the sign. The finished sign of anodized aluminium will be on permanent display at the showgrounds.
The Trust is also creating a series of heritage boards for display at the showgrounds and is interested in any photos or stories of the showgrounds people have to share.
If you would like a place on the Thank You sign or have photos or stories of the showgrounds to share please contact us - gbgrandstand@gmail.com or ph. 03 525 9099.
Thank you as always for your ongoing support
