Eliminate plastic bags and provide sustainable alternatives #DearTarget
The Issue
Mom's are too busy to "go green." We were raised one way and asked to change when we have less than 32 minutes of "me time" each day. It's true. 32 minutes. It's been studied, so it's fancy like your Project 62 line.
That doesn't mean that we don't want change. 69% of Mom's know climate change is real and want desperately to leave a better planet behind for our kids and grandkids, and their kids, and their grandkids...
So what can we do? Nothing. Thirty-two minutes of free time a day isn't enough to do much more than sit on the couch with a cup of tea zoning out to Antique Roadshow after the kids go to bed. Sure, slowly we will create new habits, but at the rate, our planet is suffering from our carbon footprint that isn't enough.
So what can you do? Ditch your plastic bags for recycled paper and carry super cute reusable bags by the checkout that we can all get excited enough about to remember to grab them from out trunks.
We know you can do it and have before. The ban on plastic has caused you to be the change in places like Portland, Oregon. We want you to make it worldwide.
Right now there isn't a good solution for that flimsy plastic bag. When we get home, we either toss those bags with a one-way ticket to a landfill, put them in our plastic bag drawer and Marie Kondo ain't down with that, or mistakenly throw them in the recycling bin and disrupt the entire recycling process.
We know of your 5 cent discount for bringing in our own reusable bag and let's be real here, Target, it's not 1985. Five cents wouldn't motivate our six-year-olds to hang up their coats. Plus you're asking us to do one more instead of helping us make the planet a better place for our kids to live.
We also know about your recycling station for plastic bags, and that's not going to happen. We are lucky if we remember to brush our teeth before we get out the door and come to your store.
So listen, you owe us this. We let you have a giant comfy chair at the Mom table. You are the staycation for Mom's, the "treat yo' self" of our week, the cheese to our Archer Farms macaroni. We love you so much we coined you a special French name, Target. I'm sure you know it. Wal-mart didn't get one. K-Mart, what's that?
We shop you, we support you, we love you, and we write you into many of our Mom memes.
#DearTarget, do this for us the way you gave us such easy access to all the Joanna Gaines we could ever want.
Love, all the Moms who buy all the stuff and are all kinds of busy but want a safe planet for our kids.
