Petition updateRemove the Confederate Monuments from Bastrop County PropertyCommissioners Court Decision to Dismantle Monuments Today.

Today, the Bastrop County commissioners are continuing discussions on where the pair of Confederate monuments standing on the county courthouse's lawn will be moved to and if the memorials will be relocated wholly or if some parts should be destroyed.  The Texas Historical Commission has not approved our permit application to relocate the monuments because they want to see them in a museum.  Bastrop does not have a museum that would accommodate the tall obelisk monument so the court is proposing an alternative solution to accommodate the request of the THC: Dismantling the monument and only keeping the cubed portion for storage and placement in a proposed future historical museum.  The remaining portion of the monument will be disposed of, and they will discuss possible locations to place the Sayers monument.  We are praying for a positive outcome today and acceptance of this amended request to the THC on tomorrow.  It’s been more than a year since we got the approval of the court and we are prayerfully anticipating some finality by the end of this week
