The Issue

Flooding is an issue that every community would want to avoid. It brings roads to halt, residential and commercial places to destruction and people to inconvenience.

However, the truth is that while it maybe the government's task to prevent it, it is our responsibility as a community to make sure that it does not occur.

Proper waste management is the  responsibility of all of us, not only the local government and the garbage collectors. We tend to blame the authorities for not having a flood control. But, in reality, our garbage is our problem too. Whatever we throw away is our responsibility because it is our waste.

To truly make a difference, every member of the society must do their share. That being said, proper waste segregation at home, cutting down on plastic use, and participating in community clean-up projects are all things we can do. If everybody does their fair share, then the load will not be as heavy as we think it is, and there will be no more hazardous waste.

We can see the reality of urban flooding challenges in local areas like Barangay Kauswagan. As clear supporting evidence, Kauswagan demonstrates how heavy rainfall regularly leads to severe surface flooding along major roads. In fact, official advisories from the City Information Office frequently declare the Kauswagan Highway—specifically the section near S&R and in front of the Old Toyota dealership—as 'Not Passable to Light Vehicles' during heavy downpours. This serves as proof that persistent drainage and flooding issues remain a critical challenge that needs urgent infrastructure and local government action. [ https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19FtJkvTZ2/

Ultimately, maintaining a clean environment begins with each individual person. It is high time to put an end to neglecting our environment. Remembering that the waste we produce is our responsibility will help us create a healthy and sustainable community for the time to come.

Improper garbage disposal can cause the blockage of drainages and waterways leading to a bigger possibility of flooding.

Through this petition, we call for the help of local authorities and community members to help in the prevention of this kind of incident and making sure that proper waste management is put into place.

We are asking for the enhancement of existing flood control system, proper maintenance of canal and waterways, proper garbage disposal, and participation in making our community clean and safe.

Flood control is not just building but also maintaining, keeping clean, and being responsible.

We all play a part on this. Our garbage, our irresponsibility can lead to a great tragedy. So let us all take part in this before the next heavy rainfalls.

What We Are Asking For:

• Regular inspection and maintenance of drainage system

• Proper garbage disposal and strict actions on those who dump garbage in waterways

• Regular cleaning of canals, waterways, and flood prone areas

• Enhancement of flood prevention projects and drainage system

• Community clean up and environment friendly programs

• More cooperation between local authorities, educational institutions, business establishments, and resident

Through this petition, let us all show our support. After all, it is our community.

By signing this petition, we show our support for a cleaner, safer, and more prepared community.

Flood prevention is everyone's responsibility. Let's do our part.
