Hello friends, supporters, fellow activists, and more, I write you all with a very important message. A message that comes from the students of THE General Body at Syracuse University: In the summer months, closed door decisions were made with no input from the student body at Syracuse, which caused the creation of this petition and resulted in the unwavering support from you all to reinstate The Advocacy Center at SU. Although we were not able to reinstate the AC, since then, the SU administration has taken small steps towards addressing sexual assault prevention and awareness on campus by implementing a working group doing research on better ways to improve access to resources and a task force. However, at the same time, the University has taken many steps backwards. In addition to the closed door decision about critical resources like The Advocacy Center at SU, there are also cuts to programs that fund lower socioeconomic classes and historically unrepresented communities to attend our university, lack of student resources of disabled students on campus, and the blatant lack of transparency regarding inclusion and diversity. Therefore, THE General Body, comprised of more than 50 student organizations and nearly double that of faculty support, have decided to fight back. THE General Body is in its 8th day of a sit-in being staged in the administration building of SU.
