31 jul 2018 — UPDATE: I am pleased to notify you that I may now disclose my efforts to increase the public awareness, I have provided statements, requested by WTOL Channel 11 News’ reporter, Kelsey Cogan, to be aired tomorrow morning (Aug 1, 2018), between 6 – 8am. I have also some additional news. I was previously notified by the Honorable Member of the Sylvania School District’s Board of Education, Mrs. Shannon Szyperski, that she was informed that the meeting format, held tomorrow night, August 1, 2018 at 7:00pm, located at Sylvania Southview High School, “[was for the purpose of] the answering of questions submitted prior to the meeting by a panel. The panel will include members of the Safety & Security Committee, administrators, police officers, etc. The Board members will be in the audience. I reread our Board policy about allowing public comments and it states, "Public participation shall be permitted as indicated on the order of business and at the discretion of the presiding officer." Tomorrow's agenda does not include a place for open public participation.” I was rightfully frustrated, as I am sure you are and were. My reply: “Now that is just frustrating. I thought Mr. Nusbaum wanted to engage the public. I took his request as an opportunity to allow for public comments and addressing them in a meeting. I understand protocol but how is that fair to us, the taxpayer. It presents the perception that, the board, as a collective unit, wishes to silent the public. That just does not help at all. I hope you may be able to press this. Let me know. I have faith in you and I believe everything you have shared with me thus far. You have proven that you are our voice and truly represent us. For that, I thank you. I continued to explain “At this point, mine & my 140 supporters really would like the opportunity to publicly address the board. I will convey, insist and press the fact that as a representative of me and our petition, (due to your support) I will not tolerate or condone any unprofessional actions. I [would] also instruct that we, must keep our comments brief, (if allowed) respectful, professional and tactful. Any misbehaving or vulgar comments will not be tolerated and any individual(s) will be held accountable for their own actions.” Well, my fellow citizens, our efforts have been recognized. Mrs. Szyperski returned the following statement: “Good news. I received word that [the school board] will be allowing public comments tomorrow night at Southview. There will be a sign-up sheet for those who would like to speak. I do want to explain that the Board will be part of the audience. As with the last meeting, information is being presented TO [The Sylvania City School Board of Education] so that [all the members] can best make our decision when voting. The district administration and the Safety & Security Committee are responsible for compiling and presenting information to us, and then [The Sylvania City School Board of Education] are responsible for listening, deciding, and voting to approve or not. I am preparing some comments to share with the Sylvania School District’s Board of Education and our fellow citizens. I need your support more than ever to prevent our side faithfully. Please, if you are available, I ask that you please try to make the meeting, held tomorrow night, at Sylvania Southview High School, August 1, 2018 at 6:00pm. Let’s show the Board of Education how have united and have become one voice. This is our time, our calling, to hold our elected officials accountable to faithful, fiscal responsibility, no matter what level of government the office may be. My servitude to you as only just begun. I look forward to being able to personally meeting each of you. Again, thank you so much for your continued support.
