We have an exclusive opportunity on our hands. At this current point in time the Sylvania School District's 0.9 Mills Safety/Security Levy ballot initiative is not on the ballot. The Board still has time to make a decision. If we unite now and provide the board with this petition, we may be able to persuade them. If we do nothing now, we will have a much harder fight once it is on the ballot. As of this moment, we must only persuade the 5 members of the board. If this gets on the ballot, we will have the entire Sylvania School District to worry about. Furthermore, I spell everything out in my petition. My biggest argument is the board's failure to pursue a grant and instead of doing so, they make the excuse that it is the city's responsibility to apply. True, but that did not stop Dr. Fineske to lobby Sen. Randy Gardner (R., Bowling Green) to have a rider bill amended to H.B. 24 which had no relation to the underline reasoning of H.B.24. Finally, if we cannot stop this initiative from getting on the ballot, we run the risk of it passing, which means we will be paying for this same request for the equipment twice, with our property taxes and Federal income taxes. The board still does not know if the grant will be approved or not. I'd rather see the official disapproval for the grant first, then I will have no problem of fully supporting this levy.
